Engineers cleared, may sue over helicopter crash probe
Iroquois helicopter broke up near Taumarunui On 4 June 2001, an Iroquois helicopter broke up near Taumarunui, in the central North Island of New Zealand. The NZ Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) released its findings in February 2002. However the report attracted criticism and much controversy. In the light of new evidence, the investigation was re-opened in June 2004. Andrew McGregor was engaged as a specialist in air accident investigation to review the previous report and re-determine the break-up sequence. His work led to new findings which cleared two Taranaki aircraft engineers of implicated blame.
