Development of new technology to purify Evaporator Milk Condensate (cow water) In the 1990s at the Kiwi Dairies (now Fonterra) Hawera site, Andrew McGregor managed the development of new technology to purify cow water from waste water to demineralised water quality. He progressed it from conceptual to pilot plant stage and then through to a full scale plant, processing 3 ML/day. Based on this success, a second plant was implemented. Together these supplied up to 25% of the site's water. At the time the ability to cost effectively purify an otherwise waste water stream was critically strategic to the company's site development plans. Total project cost: $4 million. ![]() |
